Empowering Young People Through P.E and Movement
By Sian Edwards

At CrossFit Warrington, we know the power of movement to transform lives. That’s why we’re excited about the Government’s recent announcements following the Curriculum and Assessment Review, which emphasise the importance of Physical Education (PE), school sport, and play in supporting children’s health, wellbeing, and development.
The new curriculum highlights:
- The development of fundamental movement skills
- Protecting PE time across all key stages
- Ensuring inclusive opportunities, particularly for pupils with disabilities
- Expanding access to dance, swimming, and outdoor adventurous activities
- Introducing a core enrichment offer, giving every child access to sport, arts, and life skills
These changes align perfectly with our mission at CrossFit Warrington: to inspire young people to embrace movement, build confidence, and develop skills that last a lifetime.
Introducing the Strong Girl Squad (SGS)
One of our proudest initiatives is the Strong Girl Squad (SGS) — a specialised programme for girls aged 11–16, designed to help them discover their physical, emotional, and social strength through weightlifting.
The SGS programme:
- Teaches weightlifting safely and confidently
- Builds resilience, self-esteem, and positive body image
- Covers nutrition, healthy habits, and wellbeing
- Provides all equipment and kit, ensuring inclusion for every participant
- Creates a supportive, girls-only environment to thrive
Our goal is to break down barriers that often prevent young girls from engaging in sport, helping them develop confidence and a positive connection to fitness. SGS participants not only grow stronger physically but also gain skills that support their emotional wellbeing and social development — both inside and outside the gym.
Partnering With Schools
We are actively looking to partner with schools in Warrington to deliver workshops and enrichment programmes that complement PE lessons and the new curriculum. By collaborating with schools, we aim to provide:
- Curriculum-aligned workshops for secondary-aged students
- Girls-only programmes that build confidence and resilience
- Opportunities for inclusive participation and skill development
- Support for PE teachers with expertise, resources, and equipment
At CrossFit Warrington, we believe every child deserves the chance to enjoy movement, build confidence, and develop lifelong healthy habits. If your school is interested in bringing innovative PE and enrichment programmes to your students, we’d love to hear from you.
